    ASJA International Secretariat established. Opened in the Japanese Language School of the International Students Institute (currently the JASSO Tokyo Japanese Language Education Center). One full-time staff member.

    Five countries were members at the time of establishment (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand).

    Myanmar joined the institution.

    2007

    Cambodia and Vietnam joined the institution.

    2008

    The institution paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda.
